The research work represent fundamental studies in the field of genetics, biotechnology and agrochemistry. Fundamental studies in the field of genetics and biotechnology are based on the exploitation of heterosis and the use of wide genetic variation of the tribe Triticeae and Maydeae as a tool for the creation of modern cultivars with superior properties. The studies are targeted to enhance the yield potential (eg. grain yield) or discover new traits which enable to achieve higher added value for the crop (eg. “Functional wheat”).
The fundamental studies in the field of genetics and biotechnology are supported by the knowledge related to the development of chemical procedures, where research and development are directed towards:
- Development of new procedures for the synthesis of bioactive molecules
- Transfer of knowledge of organic synthesis, which is based on “green” chemistry, and the use of “green”chemistry principles in planning alternative chemical procedures
